How Virtual Learning Impacts Your Patients’ Orthotic Needs

Schools across the country have transitioned to virtual learning. This has left many of our kiddos without access to the special services they need.

Although some services can wait until life returns to normal, orthotic intervention is one that should not be delayed.

At Transcend, we strive to ensure our patients have access to the services they need during such challenging times like these. Therefore, whether a child is in school or at home, receiving therapy or not, we are here to ensure the need for orthotics is not delayed.

No matter what teaching style your local school has adopted, continuing to work with Transcend will ensure:

  • Timely service
  • Properly fit devices
  • Each patient has the opportunity to achieve the best possible outcome

As you prepare for the next few months, here are several questions you may have:

Does my patient need to be receiving therapy services in order to work with Transcend?

No, that is not a requirement. We are happy to offer an initial evaluation and assessment even if a child has not yet received therapy services. However, some states require a prescription from an MD or DO prior to seeing an orthotist.

What appointment options do you offer?

To give the best service possible, it’s important to give patients options. That’s why we offer three appointment types:

  • In-person
  • At-home
  • Virtual

Do you offer virtual evaluations?

Yes, we do. We understand your patient’s well-being and convenience are key. This is why we have expanded our services to offer TOP Virtual Care. With TOP Virtual Care, we are able to consult, assess and begin the administrative process while reducing your patient’s travel and time away from home.

Virtual evaluations last approximately 30 minutes and can be conducted over Zoom.

Am I able to attend a virtual evaluation?

Absolutely. You are an invaluable member of the patient’s care team. We do require some intake paperwork for consent before we can do a virtual evaluation.

What other virtual services do you offer?

If a face-to-face appointment isn’t feasible, we currently offer the following virtual services:

  • An initial virtual consultation and assessment for new devices, allowing us to begin processing insurance and administrative work to expedite your patient’s prescription.
  • A fit assessment of current devices to determine if adjustments or new devices are needed.
  • Follow up virtual visits to answer all of your patient’s questions and eliminate extra trips to the office.

If you have any additional questions, or if there’s anything else we can assist you with, please contact your local Transcend office.
